IDA B WELLS TRIBUTE PAPER

The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them

This paper gives an overview of Ida B. Wells-Barnett’s life and mission as an anti-lynching advocate. It spans from her childhood day with two attentive parents, to becoming the head of a family at the tender age of 14 over to her becoming a teacher to support her siblings, a writer, a mother, a journalist and one of the most verbal advocates for an anti-lynching movement. She founded and co-founded a number of civil rights organizations focused on equality and justice for her people. Her major two works ‘Southern Horrors. Lynch Law in all its Phases’ and ‘A Red Record’ are her own work documenting lynchings in the United States to bring awareness to its atrocities. (Original pamphlets are downloadable below individually). Her bravery and conquest for truth made her an outstanding woman of her times and all times.
